William Cobbing’s artworks encompass a diverse range of media, including sculpture, installation, performance and video. Slapstick scenarios are created in which people are depicted immured in surrounding architecture, or buried under layers of earth or clay. The works allude to the idea of entropy, blurring the boundaries between body and landscape. Recent works involve the imprint of text and image into ceramic surfaces; from words scored into wet clay then effaced, to impressions of found images transformed through lustre glazes.
